FAQ

  • Do I print my own fic or someone else’s?
Please only print fic you have written!

  • How long does the fic have to be?
There is no length requirement. Feel free to print a short drabble. If you don’t have anything short enough for a zine, you can print an excerpt or single chapter!

  • Do I have to write a new fic for this event
Nope, printing existing work is OK.

  • Do I have to share my socials or AO3 in my fanfic zine
    Nope.

  • I don’t have bookbinding skills. I don’t know how to make a zine.
It can be two pieces of paper stapled together, or a piece of paper folded in half - as long as it’s physical media. For some tips and tutorials on easy diy zine printing visit here.

  • Do I need to have content warnings on my fic?
Please put any content warnings on the first page of your zine.

  • Do I need to have tags on my fic?
No, it’s not required, but feel free to do so.

  • I want to bring stickers or other crafts to give out
By all means!! The more the merrier.

  • I don’t have HR fic to swap. Can I still come?
Yes you can still come and hang out. This is a fic swap event so you won’t be able to participate in that aspect of it. You can bring other items to give out but the swapping is intended to be for fics only. It is up to individual writers to decide whether they are OK with trading fic for non-fic items.

  • Why was this event created?
Fanfic is more popular than ever, but the fic writer community rarely has open in-person events. We wanted to hearken back to the fanzine-sharing origins of fanfiction and create an offline space to appreciate fic and fellow writers.

DIY ZINE GUIDES

Remember - it doesn't have to be anything complicated. If your fic fits on a single sheet of paper, just print it and bring it!
